Myth: “A wooden house is like the Three Little Pigs — you blow on it and it falls down”
Truth:
The myth of the “Three Little Pigs” refers to makeshift constructions made of straw and wood, without any study, foundations, or regulations.
It has nothing to do with modern prefabricated wooden homes, known as timber frame homes.
Today’s timber frame homes:
- have proper foundations,
- include a full structural and seismic study,
- are built with certified materials and controlled procedures.
In simple terms:
this is not a “fairy tale”, but a proper building.
Myth: “Wooden house = makeshift or temporary”
Truth:
Wood has the best strength-to-weight ratio compared to the other two main building materials: reinforced concrete and steel.
In practice, a concrete or steel building must first and foremost “carry” its own weight, and secondarily the permanent and live loads. In contrast, a timber frame structure, due to its low weight, is much less burdened by self-loads.
This is exactly why wood performs exceptionally well in earthquakes and is used internationally in modern constructions with high requirements.

Truth:
History and science show the opposite.
Wooden structures that have stood for centuries, even in difficult environments, prove that wood, when used correctly, offers exceptional service life.
Modern timber frame homes function in much more controlled conditions than historical examples.
Myth: “A wooden house is dangerous”
Truth:
The safety of a home does not depend on the material, but on the study and design.
Timber frame homes meet the same fire safety and seismic adequacy requirements as any other permanent home.
